SSAA Singers Wanted! Information Below.
Hello, friends!
I have been invited to conduct a 25 minute set for SSAA (treble) choir and orchestra at Carnegie Hall on Sunday, June 29, 2025. The seed chorus for this fabulous event will be the San Diego Women's Chorus. I have the opportunity to invite a number of select singers to join us. If you are a woman, non-binary, or trans singer who sings in the soprano or alto range, I'd love to hear from you. Please see FAQs below, and once you've read though them, sign up here to indicate your interest. |
FAQs
Who can sing?
This ensemble will be comprised of several choruses from different locations. Additionally, as the conductor, I have been given permission to bring in additional singers who will be folded in to the ensemble under the umbrella of San Diego Women's Chorus, who will be serving as the "seed chorus" for this performance.
It is important that we have experienced singers in this ensemble who have performed with choirs or choruses before. It is expected that you will be able to learn and perform your part accurately with an appropriate choral tone. We will be performing in sections. This ensemble will be made up of women, non-binary, and trans singers who sing in the soprano or alto range (SSAA). It is my goal to have singers "off-book" (music memorized), but we can accommodate those with learning disabilities that make this impossible. We will have learning tracks available.
What is the cost of this event?
This event is what I like to call "choral tourism", wherein participants pay to be part of the experience (and an awesome experience it will be!). You are responsible for travel and lodging (though we may be able to help you connect with potential roommates). In addition to travel and lodging, the cost for your participation is $1199. See package details here. That includes:
When do I need to be in New York City?
June 26-June 30, 2025. A detailed rehearsal schedule will be sent out when it is available. There will be time for you to participate in regular tourist activities on your own through the week. The concert is on Sunday, June 29, 2025. Tickets will be available for public purchase.
How do rehearsals work?
If you are in San Diego, you will be joining several rehearsals with the San Diego Women's Chorus, a member of GALA Choruses. This is an LGBTQ+ and allied organization. Rehearsals will be on Sunday afternoons from approximately 4-5:30pm. We are currently meeting in the Mission Bay area (subject to change). If you are not local, see below. You'll need to pay a small fee for music and facility. Additionally, you will be invited to perform these pieces in San Diego with The dates will be firmed up closer to the event, but the current plan is to rehearse on several Sundays, February - May 2025, with a touch up in June. I'll have preliminary dates out within a couple of weeks. Plan on 8 or so rehearsals!
How does out of town participation work?
If you are part of a group/choir/chorus that would like to participate, I encourage you to hold your own satellite rehearsals, and let me know so that we can register you as a separate group participating with the mass choir, and so we can coordinate musical details. If you are director who is interested in bringing your group (or several people from your group), please contact me directly at [email protected]. I plan to stream the rehearsals so individuals can follow along. You will need to pay for music.
What music will we be singing?
We will be singing approximately 25 minutes of music - 125 singers plus chamber orchestra. We will sing five movements of Gwyneth Walker's Songs for Women's Voices, Tree of Peace by the same composer, and one other piece TBD.
By when do we need to register?
October, 2024
